A question for Fayette County Parents…

July 27th, 2007 No Comments »

Would it be acceptable to you for the Fayette County Board of Education to employ a faculty member in one of our local schools who has a history and permissiveness of lewd and abusive acts towards and between children?

Would you want one of your kids to be under his care? Why is it that people like this take jobs working with children? Coincidence? Not likely.

It’s been going on a few years now. Fayette County, when will something be done?

On this date in 1830, Mr. H.D. Hyde received a patent for the fountain pen. Fountain pens were the primary instruments to use for writing for over 100 years, with very little change. And, are still in use today.

The way technology is now, could anything be invented today that would still be in use in 2125?

Question: Why do we drive to work? (so we can honk)

Twice a day, we mob the roads. And I bet we could cut those commutes in half, or at least close to it, if we could only do two things …

1) Pink slips at the D.O.T., lots of pink slips. Who are they accountable to anyway? (more on that later)

2) Ticket ignorant drivers who block traffic. Driving is a privilege … do it correctly, or lose your privilege. My years of experience have concluded that drivers who are moving faster than others are usually paying more attention, and not the ones putting on make-up.

Why do speeders get ticketed? Because it’s easy and high-tech. That’s how municipalities make a lot of money. Do you think you’d ever see a quiet, tiny, gray-haired elderly lady being ticketed for doing 55 in the left-hand lane of an interstate? Or that person blocking traffic, deep in a phone conversation, oblivious that all four lanes to the right are passing at twice the speed?

NEW RULE

Next time you get in your car, take a moment to find something. Somewhere, on every steering wheel, is a series of buttons, usually four, though yours may vary. When any one of these buttons is depressed, it activates what is commonly referred to as the horn. I believe the horn is the most underused standard piece of equipment in every vehicle, and out-used by the less-effective finger, probably ten-to-one.

Why? I think that if one person believes they honk at the wrong person, they will have a loony chasing them … such as someone who just got fired by the person having an affair with their spouse.

That’s why everyone needs to use their horn.

That loony would be overwhelmed and would move over into the right lane where they belong, allowing traffic to move along nicely. I also believe chances are that that person wouldn’t be driving in oblivion again. One down and just two-hundred-million to go.

But instead, no one honks, so the traffic jam builds, tempers flair, and accidents happen … not involving the person causing the jam, of course, but some innocent drivers behind him.

Which could have all been avoided if everyone just used their horns, everyday, to let bad drivers know that we know who they are, and their game is over.

A Good Omen?

I’m not so sure.

It just came to my attention that I went online with my first post on April Fools Day, and followed that with my second post on Friday the 13th.

Come to think of it, that’s about par for things right now. As I’ve been reminded for years, “things can always get worse.”

And sure enough, they have.

No, this is not about driving a convertible.

This is somewhat older poop that still effects everyone, everywhere. Not all poop effecting us locally originates within a ten mile radius. The following, though, is a lead-in for some upcoming poop that will be much more local.

While taking all those required government history courses in school, my goal was to memorize what I needed so I could pass and move on. Experience, though, teaches a much different course … now we are the ones writing history.

ULTIMATE POWER: THE JUDICIARY

The judicial branch of the government is the most powerful of the three. Part of the definition included by Merriam-Webster states: the judicial branch is charged with trying all cases involving the government, which includes itself.

Contrary to upholding our Constitution as the Supreme Court is entrusted with, in late-2000 and behind closed doors, the justices decided instead to choose the next president of the United States. Ever wonder what they based their decision on? Does anyone else see our Constitutional Rights being slowly chipped away? I believe most people have become lemmings and don’t care.

I am by no means a law expert, though I am a proponent of unbiased truth, honesty and fairness. In upholding our inalienable Rights under the Constitution, shouldn’t the justices have ordered a full recount in Florida so as to determine the people’s true choice?

If finding the truth will take a little longer, is it acceptable to stop and save time?

I DIDN’T VOTE FOR ANY OF THESE JUSTICES

Nor did you. Virtually all individuals nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court had political ties. The seated Supreme Court justices wield the final and ultimate decisions in this country, yet no one elects them, as they are appointed by the executive branch along party lines, and for a term of life. A lot can happen in one’s life … shouldn’t they at least get a psychological evaluation every few years?

Let’s see: ultimate power, appointed along party lines, pick only the cases they want, work in secrecy, no annual performance review, lifetime tenure. Why such privileges? Why is it we have term limits on the presidency — a person elected by “we the people”— but the appointed justices get a life-long job? Is it assumed that we are not smart enough to elect the best person for the presidency, or is it because we are stupid enough to allow term limits? To me, only the party without a good candidate benefits from term limits. The rest of us lose.

Our Country should be run more like a public corporation. The president is the CEO. The CEO stays at the helm until the stockholders (that would be us) determine that a change would be beneficial.

In closing, consider this:  if this government (note that I’m not referring to our representatives here, but to you, me and all U.S. citizens) decided we wanted to begin electing those who would serve as Supreme Court justices, as well as set a term for re-elections, who do you think would have the final say? I believe it would eventually end up before the Supreme Court itself.

I also feel confident as to what their ruling would be.  That’s truly ultimate power.
